Pick of the day – The mysterious deaths of a family in Victorian Croydon

Over two dark winter weeks in the 1850s, five members of a single family died suddenly. The cause – unknown. Murder? Accident? The tragedy confounded the best detectives and scientists of the day. However, in this excellent talk which was a highlight of Croydon Heritage Festival 2013, local historian Brian Lancaster sheds light on this peculiar Victorian mystery on which he has carried out much research.
