Croydon Heritage Day – a lively day out for the family with lots to do and see

Heritage Day on Saturday 18 June, sponsored by Croydon BID, starts the Croydon Heritage Festival with a bang. An unmissable day of free events and entertainment for the family will take over Croydon town centre and Whitgift Square. This year’s Heritage Festival theme is ‘Undiscovered Croydon’, inviting visitors to uncover new things about Croydon.

Undiscovered talent

From 11am the sound of music will fill the Town Centre as the Heritage Day LIVE stage performances commence. Hear the sweetest vocals from Croydon’s own Ellie Lawler and Abi Husdon. Local favourites such as CODA, Apsara Arts, New Image Duo and J’s Dance Factory bust-out the moves with lively dance performances to get the crowds moving. Music is also high on the agenda on the LIVE stage with entertainment from London Mozart Players and Trinity Saxophone ensemble. See online for the full list of performers

Look out for Holmes and Watson and our other mischievous street performers in the high street throughout the day.

Undiscovered communities

30 stalls will line North End, manned by some of Croydon’s most interesting community groups. Both old and new organisations will be on hand to talk to visitors about what they get up and how to get involved. Interests include crocuses, football, beer, outdoor pursuits, jewellery, history and art – we guarantee you’ll find something you love and learn something new.

Undiscovered activities

The younger explorers of Croydon should head to the Whitgift Centre. Free craft workshops begin at 10am where you can make a mosaic or even a spyglass. Once you have your spyglass, make your way to Croydon library where you can collect an iSpy clue map to take you on a Town Centre trail. Once you’ve discovered all the answers just hand in your form to receive your sticker and enter the free prize draw.

For our older explorers, why not visit the Clocktower to see the free Heritage Exhibition? There are fascinating displays including the history of live music in Croydon, Surrey Street market, the David Lean Cinema and Croydon Airport.

For something a little more energetic, pick up a Walking Tour map and discover some of Croydon’s most influential and iconic places.
