In our uplifting and relaxing singing workshop, participants will be singing acappella arrangements of songs to celebrate Croydon’s rich musical heritage whilst overlooking South Norwood Lake. To honour the diversity of our community we will be singing the spiritual considered the ‘most beautiful and touching’ by Croydon’s eminent composer Samuel Coleridge Taylor (1875-1912) – you have to come along to find out which one it is! Spirituals formed the bedrock of much contemporary music and we will be time travelling forward to sing a tribute to David Bowie who ran music events in Beckenham in the early stages of his career and played at The Greyhound at the height of Croydon’s punk era.
All are welcome! Everything will be taught by ear so there’s no need to read music – just come with listening ears and an open mind!
The second part of the afternoon will see us exploring the local lake and woods, singing songs and creating sounds to help us connect more deeply with our natural heritage. No experience necessary for any activity. Suitable for all ages over 8 and wheelchairs, as access is good.
