What is Croydon Heritage Festival?

Croydon Heritage Festival has enjoyed enormous success over the last five years, with thousands of visitors enjoying hundreds of events throughout the town each June.
Taking place from Saturday 24 June to Friday 30 June 2017, this year’s festival is themed ‘Evolution’, looking at the changing face of Croydon throughout its history as it enters a new and exciting period of growth and renewal for the future.

Why is the Croydon Heritage Festival taking place?

In June 2013, The Whitgift Foundation presented the first ever Croydon Heritage Festival to celebrate the town’s rich and vibrant history and heritage with more than 150 events taking place across the London Borough of Croydon. 98% of people who responded to our survey said that the Croydon Heritage Festival should be an annual event. With each successive year being a huge success, the festival is now in its fifth year and aims to generate an awareness of the town’s past, whilst also looking towards its exciting future. During the ongoing regeneration of Croydon, it is important to maintain knowledge and understanding of its incredible history and of the places, people and events that have shaped the character of the town.

Who is organising Croydon Heritage Festival?

As an organisation that has been entwined in Croydon’s history for more than 400 years, the Foundation is both passionate about Croydon’s heritage and committed to the future success of the town
